Gelatos Alternatives

When I first began looking into buying supplies for bible journaling I saw many people using Faber Castell's Gelatos. priced at $20-25 for four I was not too thrilled to buy them. My friend gave me a four pack and they were good, but to get a range of colours it was going to be too pricey for me. I found two alternatives that were cheap here in New Zealand: Water soluble oil pastels by Das $7 and Faber Castell's watercolour Gel Pastels $16 for 12 pack.
I know there are other types (crayola does some and neocolor crayons look AMAZING), but I haven't been able to locate them here in NZ for a price that I am happy with.

There are a couple ways you can apply these, straight to the paper then add water with a paint brush or onto a craft mat (in my case an ice-cream container lid lol) and add water to your mat. I like the second option as it allows me to control how much water goes onto the page (a water brush is also good for this).
One thing I found when adding directly to the page is that it can look patchy at times. At the bottom of my entry about the bad report several of the spies gave and on the pink and purple page you can see said patchyness. To avoid the patchyness don't apply directly to the page but instead to a craft mat/plastic lid where you can mix the colour with water first. The Gold in the pack has glitter through it, but you can't really see that in the photo.
